why bother?
why bother giving us money for doing quests? 150 gold is peanuts to the 1 plat i need for each skill bought. If they aren't going to give us a significant amount of gold as a reward, then why bother giving us any at all?
BTW I'm not asking for large sums of gold per quest, but i'd appreciate a little more. Say 350 per quest.

150 is based on a new factions character (thus low skill costs). If you are already lv. 20, then of course, it's low money.

You're the first person ever to complain about being given money.
Back in the old days in Tyria, we'd only get experience for beating a mission/quest.
Youth these days... offer them a finger, they take your kidney...

Actually you'd also get skills for beating quests, but then again I guess you "old folks" can't remember all that well. Anyways, I brought this up because I remember reading about money rewards for completing quest. The reason for these money rewards was to make it easier to buy skills. I believe that these money rewards do not help in purchasing skills because they are peanuts in comparison to what is needed.

I agree, I am feeling the pinch on the bankroll too. I realize that starting a canthan character doesn't require as much gold as a tyrian character. However, I have a ton of skills to unlock now with the new ones for all of the classes and the entire two new classes. With that being said, are we supposed to delete our characters after we finish so that we can unlock skills for cheap again with a new character?

Whats the point in charging for skills if they give you loads of money?

Quest rewards + drops in quest + gold in quest can make up for the costs.

i've henched every quest i've ever done in factions, and I can say I've not come close to getting enough drops to cover the costs.

Gotta agree here and skill costs rise extremely fast as you can easily get to L17 before leaving the isle. The gold drops+quest reward money is pathetic for buying skills.
Anet should do one of the following:
- Up the Gold reward for quests
- Give a skill voucher that can be turned in for a skill
- Lower skill costs significantly

What they should of done is Have skills be redeemable with XP. Just have skills be very expensive(XP wise) and still cost 1 skill point. After all, since we are gaining experience shouldn't we be rewarded with our training with a new skill?
You may argue that Anet didn't want people to grind for XP, well I'm grinding for gold, so whats the difference, excecpt that I can guarantee XP with a kill, unlike gold.

for the real old guys... they didnt even get skills for quest rewards. That was implemented later in an update... but in those days the difficulty was getting skill points, the xp needed for them wasnt capped, so kept rising to excessive heights!
On the money: I really like getting the money, it speeds things up a lot. although it isnt much, it helps, with the hunderds of quests it should give you a large chunk of money...

Um. You get a skillpoint for gaining XP?
The gold needed to actually buy the skill comes as a sideproduct on getting those XPs required....

I've got issues on both sides of this argument.
On the one hand, I really don't like not getting skills as part of quest rewards. Especially concidering the skill selection they give you after you've completed all the training stuff and the final tests. Those skills may take you up to a point, but they're basically garbage skills. Not enough of anything to specialize. And, the choice of skills to purchase isn't all that great, either, IMO. I feel like I've been hobbled while trying to complete tough missions and quests. It's like "Let's make this even harder than it is already". I don't mind hard, but this is the lazy kind of hard. =\
What's worse, you have to manage the cash you DO get between armor, weapons, and skills. Those costs add up quick. And I'm leaving out Runes, as they're not *needed* but extremely helpful.
But, after doing a large amount of the early quests, I had obtained about 2.5k from just quest rewards. So, they do add up pretty quick. That part made me pretty happy. And I don't think I'm going to have to buy any kind of kit for a while now, concidering all the credits I'm getting at every stage in the game. Not spending that 400g on a Superior Salvage kit is a lifesaver.
It seems to me that with a little careful planning, the use of Collector's armor, and a careful selection of skills, you would have enough money for all the skills you actually need as well as enough armor to get you through, and still have the credits to get a weapon that would be "good enough". That's what you really need, but it may be hard for a new player to figure this out. Doesn't seem to be much room for error in the current setup, and that's what my problem is. There's got to be a larger margine for error, or there's going to be a lot more underequiped characters than what you could normally expect.

They should just ditch skill costs all together. Skill points are all that should be required to buy new skills. Earn xp and you earn a new skill to buy.

I did an experiment on cash/skill points.
I entered one of the Echovald regions (Ferndale for example), with henchies, and no cash.
I then proceeded to clear all the mobs, and reveal all the map. Whenever my inventory got filled, I'd go back to nearest merchant (still in the same region, without zoning out), and sell all the loot. I'd use the cash made this way to buy keys.
Then I'd go complete all the quests in the region, opening any chests I encountered along the way.
After this, I'd end up with extra skill points from the quests, at least 1 skill point from xp, and at least two extra keys (450 or 600g each).
This means, if you just explore each region, you'll be left with more than enough money and skill points to both, purchase all the chest keys, and buy at least one skill (max price 1 plat). If you're tight on cash, you can skip the chests in one run, and you'll end up with 3-6 plat cash.
So yes, it's balanced.
Most important thing is, don't just do quests one by one. Always clear entire region, then do all the quests you can. Apart from good profit, it also makes quests easier, since you will unlikely get mobbed by random spawns.
